A Tower That Needs Repair – And One That Doesn’t!
Our church building is a fairly distinctive landmark in Portrush.
It’s been standing here for over 112 years now. Originally built in splendid isolation the town has come out to meet it (though sadly few from the town seem to want to come in to it) so that now it is surrounded by houses. But the passing of the years has also taken its toll on the building itself so that now the tower is in urgent need of repair. The scaffolding is up and investigations are under way to determine exactly what needs to be done. Because the building is listed any work done must leave the building looking as it has been. So we face a hefty bill – far beyond what we can meet from our own resources. But since “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;” (Psalm 24:1) we are confident that He will direct His people to meet the need. One tower may be crumbling and in need of repair but “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” (Proverbs 18:10)
